What is a Brand Perception Test?
A Brand Perception Test measures how real consumers currently perceive an existing brand — its personality, credibility, quality, and position relative to competitors. Unlike a name or logo test, which evaluates a single new asset, a Brand Perception Test looks at the whole brand as customers experience it today, capturing the gap (if any) between how a company wants to be seen and how it's actually seen.
Why it matters
Internal teams are often too close to their own brand to see it clearly. A brand perception gap — where a company believes it's seen as premium and innovative, but customers actually see it as dated or generic — can quietly undermine pricing power, marketing effectiveness, and growth. A Brand Perception Test surfaces this gap directly from real customers and prospects, giving teams a factual starting point for repositioning, messaging, or design decisions instead of relying on internal assumptions.
